Five Of The Best Things To Do In Spain This Autumn 2019

As another Mediterranean summer comes to a close, those in the mood for more yachting fun in the sun turn their attention to the Spanish Balearic Islands, where the warm weather carries on well into the early autumn. If you’re looking for things to do in Spain in the autumn, look no further than the gorgeous islands of Mallorca and Ibiza, where you’ll find local culture, wild parties, and spectacular scenery everywhere you look.

Autumn is a superb time to explore Spain, and in particular, the Balearics. Activities festoon the cultural calendar, and the blazing midsummer head fades away into pleasant sunny days, with maximum temperatures around the mid-20s lasting right through October in the Balearic archipelago. This makes for lovely yachting weather, whether you’re planning day trips around the islands or longer charters on board. The more crowded anchorages of summer become peaceful and secluded again, and the price of boat charter also drops, so it’s a great time to book a yachting holiday.

Five things to do in Spain’s Balearic Islands in the fall

1.     Take in world-class art and performances

Autumn is culture season in Mallorca, beginning with the famous Nit de l’Art in Palma, where museums and galleries open their doors at night and thousands flock the streets to take in art installations and street performances. But that’s just the beginning: between art, dance, music and theatre, these cultural Spain activities explode into life as autumn descends.

2.   Bliss out in the Bay of Gold

Cala d’Or, or Golden Bay, is one of Mallorca’s prettiest areas, with pine trees overlooking rocky coves and golden sands. There are plenty of lovely coves to drop anchor and swim off the yacht in the blue-green water, while the popular resort town of Cala d’Or also has plenty of bars, restaurants and boutiques, as well as a luxury marina. There are walks to be had in the nearby Parc Natural de Mondrago nature reserve where you’ll also find some gorgeous beaches. This is one of our favourite things to do in Spain at any time of year.

3.    Feast on Autumn’s harvest

Autumn is harvest season in Spain, and Mallorca’s villages put on fantastic local festivals to celebrate the picking of the island’s almonds, mushrooms, grapes and pine nuts. You’ll find the local menus change at this point to reflect the season’s bounty, so it’s an exciting time to visit the local markets and eat out in the island’s fantastic restaurants- whether you’re craving haute cuisine or rustic traditional fare.

4.    Enjoy the famous closing parties of Ibiza

Ibiza keeps on partying into October, with clubbers flocking from across Europe to the White Isle’s infamous closing parties. Spend the day lazing on the white sands and swimming in the crystal clear sea of neighbouring island Formentera, before taking your yacht back to Ibiza to have sunset cocktails at Café del Mar and head out for a night of Champagne-spraying revelry at Ibiza’s biggest clubs.

5.   Have an active adventure

The autumn weather brings climbers, hikers and cyclists out in droves, who explore Majorca’s mountains and forests under clear sunny skies. Lots of these Spain activities are almost impossible in the peak summer months due to the heat, so if you’re an active person, then an autumn yacht charter may in fact be preferable to summer (and you’ll get a bargain on a boat charter Mallorca, rates in the process!)

There are so many incredible things to do in Spain. But in autumn, exploring the Balearics on a yacht must surely top the list.
